TOPSHELF SPLURGE WORTHY ITEM OF THE DAY: ANDY WORHOL THE ILLUSRATED SERIES

During my Saturday morning online fashion cardio I noticed that Retrosuperfuture has released an Andy Warhol Collection called “The Illustrated Series”. Let’s just say the moment I locked eyes with this collection it was instant swoon action.

We all know Andy Warhol to be one of the leading figures in the visual arts movement and remains a prominent figure in contemporary art and culture today. Retrosuperfuture has used their relationship again with The Andy Warhol Foundation for The Visual Arts to bring us an eclectic art inspired collection. The Illustrated Collection was inspired by a series of whimsical drawing developed in 1975. Like my Momma said what’s old always comes back.

The four designs, (BABYBAY, NICOLOU, VELVETDARLING, and ULTRACANDY), uniquely embody Warhols’ witty visual flair that aids for an eccentric and iconic eyewear collection.

BABYBABY sports an exquisitely curvy design, with a light crystal acetate on the outer part of the frame matched with a pristine white acetate on the inner encasing of the lenses. BABYBABY also has zeiss lenses in aubergine.

 

Technically elaborate of the collection is NICOLOU. This harmonious piece of eyewear sports a graphic round black zeiss lens encased within the frame.

 

The most iconic piece of the collection, ULTRACANDY’s main feature are its heart-shaped lenses, paired with a much more linear frame.

 

A contemporary and even slightly futuristic silhouette, VELVETDARLING sports a rectangular geometric lens as its key feature, mounted onto an elaborate brow piece. VELVETDARLING sports signature zeiss lenses in black.
