STEAL SUMMERS LOOK: ZARA MIDI DRESS WITH GATHERED DETAIL
Spring has sprung, occasionally, here in NY and that means for me to bring on the color. During the winter months you’ll see me in lots of black, grey, and more black. But when the temperature starts to warm up and that sun starts to peak through a little more my style choices definitely change. I blame this on seasonal depression which I never knew existed until my girl Tola put me on to it. Seasonal depression is basically a mood disorder characterized by by depression that occurs at the same time every year. When I found out about that it made total sense why around March and April I’m over the dark colors and the ugly weather in NY and ready for Spring to show up so I can show out! Show out in bright bold colors as I did in this Zara midi dress. Read more on this dress, how I styled it, and where you can grab it!
As a curvy woman that stands only at 4ft 11inches / 5ft even on a good day pulling off light cotton dresses let alone midi dresses are tricky. It has to have enough give but the right support for all my lovely lady lumps and the length must be exact enough to not hit that awkward spot on the calf making me look even shorter. I found every amount of right in this bright stripe Zara midi dress. It has a round neck and long sleeve with about 3% elastane to keep everything nice and tight. The gathered detail in the front midsection was a perfect touch to camouflage any flaws or flaw to be if worn out to dinner. You know if you’re like me and don’t pretend to want the salad on a date after you eat your stomach gets a lil bigger. Don’t believe me just watch next time you head to brunch or dinner, lol. I kid you not!
In this look I wanted to keep the fun bright theme going so I paired the dress with a pair of BCBG nubuck pumps circa 2015 in firestarter red which I blogged about here. I’m not sure if they are still available but going back to that blogpost is a good way to start your search since I laid out all the details for you. I think at the time I purchased them at DSW where they were $59.99 but were originally $89.99. And let me tell you these shoes are the most comfortable pumps I own.
One of my favorite pieces of this look is my yellow lambskin leather clutch from Zara circa 2016 with lettering on it. On one side it says “Have Fun” but the side I like to wear it on says “Non Stop Summer”. You see why I purchased it now lol. Being named after a season has its perks. The yellow square frames were a street vendor purchase here in NY for about 5 buck back in 2014 and I added those to the look channeling my Rasheeda “Boss Chick” Frost vibes! I absolutely LOVE her style.
The Zara midi dress is under $30 comes in two color ways and is extremely flattering for all body types. I think it would even suit well for an expecting mom who is just starting to show. Pregnancy Slay Matters!
Happy Shopping
