HEALTHY LIVING: HOW DO YOU KNOW YOU NEED PROBIOTICS?
Some of you may be thinking well what the heck is a probiotic in the first place? Well just like I put you all on about all the trendy fashions at affording pricing; I want to educate you all on things that will help you live a long and healthy life. Probiotics are a definite way to assist in achieving that goal.
More after the jump…
To start off, I’ll be first to tell you that I had no clue what probiotics were a year ago. Probiotics are microorganisms, called microflora, that reside in your intestines. Our digestive system is filled with good and bad bacteria, competing with each other and throwing off your microflora balance. What probiotics does is aid in proper digestion, allows your body to absorb nutrients at its maximum potential, and strengths your immune system. It’s a good bacteria that balances that bad bacteria we have in our bodies. I personally started adding probiotics to my health regimen after going through 2 very serious surgeries in the past 3 years related to my GI (gastro intestinal) Tract. So if I can help prevent or lessen the chances of just 1 person from going through what I had to endure then my mission here was successful.
I did some research on things I wish I was more knowledgable about prior to my health scares. We already covered one and that was understanding what a probiotic is and what it does. Now you need to know what are the signs that maybe you should be adding probiotics to your health regimen.
WEAK IMMUNITY – If you are someone who catches the flu every year or everybody’s cold that you come in contact with then baby girl your immune system is weak and you need to add in some probiotics to your body. It will act as a first line of defense against foreign microbes that don’t belong there while boosting and strengthening your immune system.
YEAST INFECTIONS – Are you constantly getting yeast infections? If so then there is a imbalance between your good bacteria and your bad bacteria with a clear overgrowth of bad bacteria in your body. Remember probiotics balances that out thus overcrowding the bad bacteria relieving the body of symptoms that are causing the excessive growth. Also stay away from natural sugars, white sugars, and sugary carbs. These are the foods these growths feed off of.
FOOD POISONING – You ever eat something and a few minutes later you feel like something is not right? It’s a good chance you’ve gotten food poisoning and bad bacteria has found its way into your body. It doesn’t always have to mean the food was not fresh it could also be if you are traveling in another country and your digestive system is not used to the food there. Probiotics will fight off that pesky bad bacteria and get your bowels moving regularly again.
DIGESTIVE DISTURBANCES – While we’re on the topic of funny acting stomachs digestive disturbances like gas, diarrhea, upset stomach, irritable bowel syndrome then you most likely need to take a probiotic. The dose of healthy bacteria will ease the symptoms almost instantly. Oh and its also helpful if you lay off the diary and eliminate hard to digest foods like packaged, processed, and fried foods.
MOOD SWINGS – I found this one to be interesting because who knew your mood was linked to bacteria. If you are often feeling depressed, stressed out, full of anxiety then that means your flora is not balanced. In turn this means the probiotics will normalize your flor which will improve the function of your neurotransmitters and your mood. That’s ill (excuse the geek in me)!
SKIN CONDITIONS – If you suffer a bout with psoriasis, eczema, acne, rashes, or hives then there is an imbalance in your gut that could be caused by poor diet. A clean diet and adding probiotics to can help clear that up from the inside out.
ANTIBIOTIC USE – If you are taking antibiotics (which mean anti-life) you might want to follow that up with a pro-biotic (pro-life). You see antibiotics kills bacteria, yes and that what we want it to do. However, it does not discriminate between what kind of bacteria it kills. It can be wiping out all the good bacteria you need to maintain a healthy balance between the 2. Taking a probiotic will replace the good flora that was killed by the antibiotics.
With all the information provided I urge you to keep a good probiotic in your house. You just never know when you might need it since it related to help so many issues. The probiotics I have been taking are the ItWorks! Probiotic supplements. It strengthen my entire digestive system while supporting the small AND large intestines, replenishes good bacteria as we discussed earlier, builds a strong immunity system (it will be flu season soon), restores your system’s optimal microflora balance, and lower pH levels. The awesome part is that it has a blend of 3 nutrient-rich greens (spinach, kale, and watercress) that targets your large intestine to feed good bacteria to balance your system. If you’d like to get more information on these ItWorks! Probiotics you can check them out here.
