TOPSHELF DIY: FOREVER FLORALS
Lately, I’ve been in what some call the nesting phase in my apartment. I’ve been living in my apartment for three years now and have yet to decorate. I know, get on it already girl! Well I’ve been spending the last couple months on pintrest creating boards relating to home decor & diy projects. Which leads us to these elegant floral arrangements I made to add some glamour to my place. Check out how I created these chic floral arrangements after the jump.
When it comes to home decor I’m obsessed with elegance and glamour and flowers add just that touch. Flower have a way of adding romance to a room and just a softness and sense of serenity for me. Generally, I like to have fresh flowers but it can be quite expensive replenishing the amount of roses I would like in the house every time they die. For a more affordable way to still carry out this look I went for silk roses.
Since I already had a few vases given to me by my Grandmother I decided to go to Michael’s Arts & Craft store to purchase some silk roses. The sales associate was super helpful and assisted me in finding I think what had to be every Cream Ashland Open rose stems, yellow Ashland Open rose stems, and white Holland Rose Sprays.
This was my first time working with silk roses so I wasn’t aware that the stems were made of metal wires. I didn’t have wire cutting scissors so I had to improvise with my biggest chopping knife and household scissors. It was kind of tough at first but after cutting the 4th stems I got a technique down packed. I would make sharp imprints on each side of the stem and then take the scissors to cut into the metal as much as I can. After that I would bend the stem back and forth and twist around. Doing that helped the metal bend off. Once that was done I kind of eyeballed how much of the stem I wanted off by placing the flower in a vase to see how it sits. If it needed to be cut down some I would just take another inch or so off. After the first one for each vase I used them as a cutting guide.
These arrangements came out so cute and exactly what I wanted. Right now I’m not sure where I want to place them besides the one I placed on me writing desk. So for the time being I will keep them on top of my kitchen bar area.
This was a super easy project that I think is cost affective when being compared to buying fresh flowers weekly. Even though I already had vases you can totally find some amazing vases at Marshalls and HomeGoods for a great price. You can even try Target but go to the latter two first.
Good luck adding some elegance to your home Divas!
