CERTIFIED TOPSHELF: RED CARPET LOOKS FROM THE 2017 MTV VMAs
One thing I love about a good award show is the red carpet. Getting to see who celebs show up with and what they are wearing. The MTV VMA’s are no different in fact the VMA’s are notoriously known for their elaborate themes and theatrics and this lends no difference in what their guests, performers, and honorees decide to give us a taste of. Check out some of my Certified Topshelf looks of the night after the jump.
I will preface this by saying this years MTV VMA Red Carpet was a huge disappointment for me. I was completely baffled at how many people showed up wearing absolutely whatever. Or the attempts were nice but the execution was not fully committed throughout the look. With that said here are my top 10 certified topshelf looks of the 2017 MTV VMA’s.
- Cardi B continues to reign on this wave as who to look out for when it comes to not only her lyrical prowess but her fashion statements as well. She knows exactly when to glam it up as she did that last night. Her custom Christian Soriano screams Queen on the night! I loved that it was a pants ensemble with a very dramatic train. Her classic and chic deep side parted tousled bob added texture and a sense of edginess to the Soriano number making it perfect VMA material.
2. Tiffany Haddish is having one hell of a year. As the breakout start of the box office hit Girls Trip she came out slaying in a silver diamond covered Falguni & Shane Peacock dress and metallic Via Spiga heels. I was having soo many issues with others celebs who donned similiar c-thru style ensembles with the wrong undergarments but not Haddish. Tiffany looked classy right on staged while dragging all her exes who did not believe in her for filth. She ready!
3. I may not personally care for her on VH1’s Love and Hip Hop LA but I am here miss Hazel E’s choice of dress for this years MTV VMA’s. I’m not sure who the designer is but I love this all black lacy number showing just he right amount of skin in the right areas. I also loved that she decided to pull all the hair back to let the dress be the statement of the night. Very good choice Hazel E!
4. Actress Olivia Munn showed off her stunning legs in this Nicholas Jebran jewel encrusted art infused mini frock. Combining it with metallic barely there heels, a deep dark lip, and her signature dark tresses made her one of my fave shorter looks of the night.
5. Another short goodie was Sibley Scoles in Berta Bridal. What kind of bridal is this, I have know clue but I love the gunmetal hue, the diamond encrusted detail, and embroidery on this mini number showing off yet another pair of killer legs. The only negative I have is that I don’t care for the shoes much. Other than that she nailed this look!
6. Confident and casual Teyanna Taylor has got to have THE best abs in the business and she knows it. Paying homage to those that came before her, Teyanna opted to recreate Janet Jackson’s 1995 MTV VMA outfit down to the hair and abs of steel. Teyanna is definitely one of those androgynous stars Pink laid reference to in her Video Vanguard award speech. I give Teyanna a A+ for pulling this off with perfection!
7. Victoria’s Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio came decked out in head to toe Balmain. I don’t think there’s much to say when it comes to a VS Angel model who came to show out. Check out the boots which happen to be my favorite part of the look. If there is ever a time to where this bold print all together, all at once is the MTV VMAs.
8. I’m a sucker for a girl that can pull off a simple yet chic topknot and tuxedo jacket inspired dress. It’s something about Joan Smalls simplicity of her entire look that pulls me in. The tuxedo dress was custom made by H&M, who I’m hoping they will put a version of it in stores, and her heels were of Gianvito Rossi. I’m here for all she’s serving of this effortless look.
I was going to give you 10 but as I stated I wasn’t too enthused with the vast majority of looks from this years MTV VMAs. So I will leave you with my Certified Topshelf 8 looks. Let me know which of these would be your go to if you were attending the VMA’s.
Until next time,
xoxo – Summer Terry
