LET’S TALK SKIN: MY CUSTOM FACIAL EXPERIENCE AT SILVER MIRROR FACIAL BAR, MANHATTAN WEST

After a year-long hiatus from professional facials, I found myself back at Silver Mirror Facial Bar at Manhattan West, near 34th Street in Midtown. My skincare routine is solid, but there’s nothing like getting expert insight into the true health of my skin.

The day after a snowstorm, the city was freezing, but that didn’t stop me from stepping out in style. I bundled up in my favorite cocoa-hued Pilates set, my iconic Timberland 40 Below boots, a Kelly green suede “In My Bag” snapback, my mom’s LV Monogram Neverfull Petit Modèle, and a thrifted fab fur I lucked up on in Brooklyn. As soon as I arrived, the receptionist greeted me warmly and offered a chilled glass of green tea while I waited for my esthetician, Nicole. This was the perfect time to browse their display of medical-grade skincare goodies before heading into my session.

Once Nicole escorted me to the private suite, I made myself comfortable—hanging up my coat, taking off my boots, and settling in. She started by checking for any allergies or skin sensitivities. While I don’t have allergies, I did let her know that my skin is highly reactive and tells me immediately if something isn’t right. The facial began with a double cleanse to remove any surface debris before Nicole turned on the overhead analysis light. Because I take great care of my skin, her assessment was quick. The plan? Targeted extractions on my nose, chin, and forehead, followed by a micro-current facial for a snatched, lifted, and hydrated look. While Nicole exfoliated my skin, I took the opportunity to ask all my burning skincare questions—dermaplaning, microneedling, chemical peels, you name it. She patiently answered them while prepping for extractions. Extractions are a procedure that removes blackheads, whiteheads, and other blemishes from clogged pores, preventing future breakouts. Using sterile instruments, she gently pressed on my skin to extract any buildup. Once that was complete, Nicole used a high-frequency wand to kill acne-causing bacteria and prevent inflammation. This is a key step in ensuring a smooth, clear complexion.

Now, onto the fun part—the micro-current facial. This non-invasive cosmetic treatment uses low to medium electric currents to stimulate the skin and underlying muscles, lifting and tightening the jawline, cheeks, and eyebrows. How does it feel? A gentle tug, nothing painful at all. Honestly, it felt so amazing that at one point, my mouth was wide open in relaxation! I’m so glad Nicole recommended this—it’s something I’d definitely do again. After the micro-current session, Nicole had me lay under Red LED Light Therapy for about 8-10 minutes. Red light stimulates collagen production, reduces inflammation, and promotes healing, making it a staple in anti-aging treatments. At this point, I was so relaxed, I took a quick nap!

To wrap up my facial, Nicole applied a hyaluronic acid serum to deeply hydrate my skin. As she worked, we discussed the importance of layering skincare correctly.

Pro Tip: Always apply your skincare in order of thinnest to thickest to ensure proper absorption and effectiveness.

Nicole sealed in the hydration with eye cream, sunscreen, and a lip mask, leaving my skin looking dewy, refreshed, and radiant.
