LET’S TALK HAIR: WIDIN HEALING HAIRCARE ALMOND MINT SCALP TREATMENT OIL

Healthy hair maintenance is a priority for me whether its under a wig or a braided protective style. The misconception of routinely wearing protective styles is that you can just leave your hair alone and do nothing to it. That’s absolutely not true! Keep reading because I’m going to explain to you the importance of keeping a healthy scalp, signs of a unhealthy scalp, tips on how to keep your scalp healthy and how WIDIN Healing Haircare’s Almond Mint Scalp Treatment Oil can come to the rescue with all of that.
You have to make sure your scalp is properly taken care of because a clean and healthy scalp is vital to healthy hair growth. As we get older just like how the skin on our bodies get thin so does the skin on our scalp. With the skin on the scalp becoming thinner it loses the ability to retain moisture which aids in cell regeneration. If your scalp is not retaining moisture nutrients are not able to be distributed to the hair follicles. I get it hair maintenance can be a lot especially if you’re a naturalist. But we all know how uncomfortable and embarrassing an unhealthy scalp can be. I’m talking about from a dry, itchy scalp to flaky dandruff and nobody wants that!

Although I love hair and take pleasure in setting time aside to indulge in self-care not everyone has the same amount of time to do so. With that in mind I have a few quick tips on how you can keep your scalp healthy and what I use to maintain moisture.
Exfoliate
As I stated in the beginning of this post whether or not you’re switching it up in wigs, braids, faux locs, or crochet styles you should regularly exfoliate and cleanse your scalp with an apple cider vinegar rinse. I have an entire blog post here with step by step instructions to guide you through. Doing an apple cider rinse restores your scalps pH balance and removes product buildup.
Cleanse
There’s a misconception that you can’t shampoo and cleanse your scalp with braids in. That’s completely false! You absolutely can do so just make sure you allow your hair proper time to dry if you’re placing a wig back on. With other protective styles you just make sure to let it air dry. The last thing you want is for your hair to get mildew and create a bad smell.
Massage
Scalp massages condition the scalp and helps to prevent flaky, dry, itchy scalps. It also helps to enhance blood circulation in the head promoting new hair growth. I believe it’s the most convenient and easy way you to pamper your scalp. You can literally do this while watching tv, before bed, or listening to music. You can even have your honey do this for you as a romantic bonding experience. Sort of a two for one!
Drink Lots of Water
Drinking water maintains healthy never endings in the scalp that keeps your hair roots healthy. Hair strands are actually one fourth water meaning adequate hydration results for longer stronger healthier hair. So drink up!
Preserve and Maintain Moisture
I can’t stress enough on moisture moisture moisture! I’m no stranger to concocting oil mixtures and maintaining a moisturizing schedule of 2-3 days a week. Combine this on the days of your massage and you’ll be as good as golden.

Since I have been wearing a crochet protective style I wanted to make sure I had a really good oil to retain moisture in my scalp. I purchased WIDIN Healing Haircare’s Almond Mint Scalp Treatment Oil to do the job. This treatment oil nourishes and eliminates any signs of dryness, itchiness, and flakiness to your scalp. You can pour a dime size amounts in certain sections of your scalp and massage it in or you can place drops on your fingertips and massage your scalp that way. If you ask me either way works just fine. The ingredients are made with a carrier soybean oil (improves moisture retention), sweet almond oil (rich in B Vitamins B1 and B6 promoting healthy hair growth and repairs hair follicles while preventing them from inflammation), and peppermint oil (I have a blog post on those benefits here). You’ll feel a light cooling sensation that will instantly give your scalp a revitalized boost.
WIDIN Healing Haircare is a black owned business from NYC based Hair Stylist and entrepreneur Shaneek Steele who used her own hair and scalp issues to formulate a haircare line of everything you need to care for dry frizzy hair and a flaky itchy scalp while restoring your confidence.
