LET’S TALK HAIR: CROCHET BRAIDS
Some of you may be thinking what are crochet braids, while some of my Team Natural Sisters know exactly what they are. But for those of you who are not sure what they are; they are exactly what it sounds like…hair that is crocheted in your braids!
Let me rewind and slow down. A few months ago I was looking for a protective style that still gave me that Tracee Ellis Ross flawlessness since she’s the reason I went natural anyway. I then saw a picture of my girlfriend Tola wearing a head of everything in a bowl of yummy hair heaven on her head. I of course I hit her up immediately to find out what kind of hair it was. That’s when she told me it was crochet braid.
Crochet braids are the easiest protective style I think anyone could rock! The best part of it all is you get this illusion of having this head of natural full hair because it looks nothing like what traditional braids are. In actuality, your hair is braided in cornrows while Marley hair is divided into pieces and crocheted into your cornrows with a crochet needle. Here is what the crochet needle looks like.
Now you can leave it very natural and textured depending on the style your going for but I love to set them on perm rods. It is tedious work but the outcome is sooo worth it. Once I take my rods out I have super defined corkscrew like curls. It almost look like I did a natural hair twist out!
Personally I change my hairstyle every 2-3 weeks because I get bored with one look and I know how to do hair so I can switch up so often. But, I’ve been wearing crochet braids for almost 2 months now! It’s the most no fuss, low maintenance glam protective style I’ve ever had. And I don’t have to worry about my hair breaking. I feed my scalp regularly with natural oils (vitamin E, tea tree, grape seed, carrot, macadamia nut, etc) to keep it healthy and moisturized. And at night I just pineapple my hair in a silk scarf. Come morning time I take the pineapple down, shake my head, finger comb the curls in the style I want for that day, slick my edges, and go!
Like I said best overall Topshelf Glam Protective Style EVER….CROCHET BRAIDS!!

Great Blog! My sister and I are new to the blog! We would love for you to follow us and check out our first blog on the pineapple method! Thanks in advance!
This is exactly the hairstyle that I have been trying to get but for some reason have not been able to conquer. Can you please tell me what hair did you use? I know it is Marley but what brand? Also, how did you curl your hair? Into hot water before you put the hair in or after you crocheted the hair into your braids? Did you leave some of your natural hair out? I tried this with some Harlem 125 and I will never do that again. I am trying to find some Nor Marley Braid…but if you know of any other brand that I can use please share. Also, how many packs did you use?
